Ordyne - TurboGrafx-16

Ordyne is one of those games that rolls along nice and easy for a few levels, then kicks you in the nuts and face simultaneously out of nowhere. It reminds me of Fantasy Zone a little bit with its weird graphics and non-stop shooting action (the plot? Play as a girl or a boy flying a spaceship thing shooting down endless waves of evil blah-blah-blah). I seem to recall the music being quite good too, though it's a while since I played it so I could be thinking of Parodius or something.

Just like Fantasy Zone, you can fly into shops at various points in the levels and upgrade your ship / weapons. The cover art on the box is truly hideous, though (mind you, most TG-16 game boxes are similarly hideous so don't let it ruin your life too much).

All in all, a good fun game. As long as you're prepared to chug along for the first few levels, you'll probably get a kick out of this.

Score: 3/5
