Donkey Kong Junior - Atari 7800

Poor old Donkey Kong spends his time here locked up and sitting beneath the watchful gaze of Super Mario, having presumably captured him and beaten the big ape to a pulp at the end of the first game.

Somehow.

Anyway, it's up to you to rescue him via four screens of increasingly hair-pulling action. Climb vines, jump across moving platforms and dodge the birds, crocodiles and other assorted enemies. A number of different tunes and great graphics help to keep this wedged firmly in the 7800. It's bloody hard, though. I gave up at level 3 (where you're apparently in some sort of electrified factory with living sparks moving along conveyor belts, which is about as annoying as it sounds).

I'm not sure how much longevity this game has to it (once you've worked them out, the first two screens can be completed in a minute or two) but seeing as you'll probably give up too once you reach level 3, who cares, right?

Score: 3.5 / 5
