Desert Falcon - Atari 7800

This is a really interesting take on a shooting game. For one thing, you travel diagonally up the screen.

For another thing, you play a falcon (that sorta looks more like a pigeon...) in Ancient Egypt and you can either take to the skies or run across the ground. Even better, being on the ground isn't a gimmick - it's an important part of the game because the items you need to collect are all down there.

Apparently there's a complicated bonus system involving which order you collect things in, but you need a degree in Physics to understand it so I won't go there.

The graphics look nice for the most part, though the sound is pretty forgettable. With you traveling diagonally, it's sometimes hard to judge where the bad guys are and you'll end up running / flying into them. Which sucks. It's also hard to tell what a lot of the bad guys are supposed to be - generic Egyptian thingies, I guess.

If you see it on sale, it's worth picking up.

Score: 3/5
