Alien Brigade - Atari 7800
This is one weird game. Similar to Operation Wolf, the screen scrolls from left to right and you shoot an assortment of green alien things and aliens disguised as regular humans (supposedly they walk slower than the real humans in the game, but I never noticed much difference to be honest. Kill em all).
The first level even looks like it's out of Operation Wolf, but level 2 is set in some kind of Vietnamese jungle and level 3 is, er, underwater. And sucks.
Sometimes mission objectives can be confusing - level 1 has you supposedly "rescuing hostages". What this means, is at the end of the level, you shoot the doors off a building and all these guys run out, legging it off the screen. You think that's the end of it, but then a helicopter lowers down in front of you and, because it looks like all the other choppers shooting at you, you blow it to pieces. At that point, you find out you've failed the mission and wonder why. Turns out that's the rescue helicopter, and if you leave it a while, the prisoners run back onscreen and into the chopper.
Doh.
The graphics are a bit brown and muddy looking (think Commodore 64), but everyone explodes in showers of blood so that makes up for it (the Vietnamese women whose arms blow off when you shoot them are a bit disturbing though.
The music is some kind of brain numbing military ditty, so I'd lower it down lest it send you insane. Overall though, an enjoyable shooter and if you have a light gun, so much the better.
I don't, but I'm just saying.
Score: 3/5
